The Roaring Cockerel/Palestinian folktale

Once upon a time there was
a roaring cockerel, which went to search for
his food in the fields. He found a grain of
wheat. He took it and walked and walked and
walked until he reached an old woman who was
grinding her grains of wheat.
- Good morning to you, take this grain of
wheat
- Good morning to you this grain of wheat
The cockerel left her for a while and came
back.
- where is my grain of wheat?
- What? Your grain of wheat?! I've already
ground it with mine

I went to the fields
Searching for my food
I found a grain of wheat
A grain of wheat for a handful of flour.
The old woman gave the cockerel a handful of
flour, and he continued n his way. He walked
and walked and walked until he reached a
baker.
- Al-salam alaikum
- Al-salam alaikum
- Take this handful of flour.
Said the cockerel.
- Thanks a lot dear cockerel
The cockerel went away for a while and came
back to the baker.
- where is my handful of flour?
- Put it with my flour and made bread I
- But I wan it back

The baker gave the cockerel a loaf of bread.
The cockerel took it and continued on his
way He walked and walked and walked until he
reached some peasants who were gathering
green onions into bunches.
- God bless you, take this loaf of bread if
you want
- Thank you very much and God bless you too
The cockerel pretended to leave, but in
reality he spied on them until he was sure
They had eaten the loaf of bread. He came
back to them and said:
- I came to take back my loaf of bread.
The peasants were surprised and said:
- You gave us the loaf of bread and we have
eaten it

The peasant gave him a bunch of green
onions. The cockerel took it and continued

until reached a group of people who were
filling up jars with honey.
- Hello… Take this bunch of green onions.
They took the bunch and thank him very much.
He pretended to go away again but he hid and
spied on them, and when they had finished
eating the green onions, he came back to
them and said: "I want my bunch of green
onions.
- But we have eaten it.

They gave him a jar of honey, the cockerel
took it and continued on his way. He walked
and walked and walked until he met a group
of shepherds their flock of goats. After he
had greeted them he said:
- Take this jar for honey.
The shepherds took the jar and thanked the
cockerel.
The cockerel went away and hid behind a tree
where he spied on them, when they finished
eating, he came back to them.
- Where is my jar of honey?
- What? Your jar of honey? We've eaten the
honey.

cockerel a small goat.
The cockerel took the small goat and

dancing. He asked: What’s going on?
- It's the bridegroom's wedding party
The cockerel went to the bridegroom's family
and said:
- Good luck to you all. Take this small goat
They took the goat and thanked him very
much.
The cockerel hid for some time and spied on
them from away. When they had eaten the
small goat, he came back to them and said:
- I want my goat back.
- Your goat? We've shared it with our
visitors
The cockerel began to shout and cry:
I am the Roaring Cockerel

The bridegroom's family had no choice but to
give him the cow.
The cockerel took the cow and continued on
his way, he walked and walked and walked
until he saw a crowd singing and dancing. He
asked: "What's going on? It's another
bridegroom's wedding party'?
- No it's the bride's wedding party
He went to the bride's family and said:
- Good luck for all of you. Take this cow
- Thank you a lot dear cockerel and god
bless you
The cockerel went away and hid as usual. He
waited until they finished eating the cow
and came back to them.
- I want my cow back. Where is my cow?
- But you give us the cow and we shared it
with our visitors
The cockerel shouted and screamed and cried
furiously:
I am the Roaring Cockerel

I found a grain of wheat
A grain of wheat for a handful of flour.

A loaf of bread for a bunch of green onions
A bunch of green onions for a jar of honey
A jar of honey for a small goat.
A small goat for a cow.
A cow for the bride's crown
The bride's family had no choice but to give
the cockerel the bride's crown.
The cockerel took the bride's crown and put
it on his head, and continued on his very
happy and satisfied.
Since then all the cockerel have a red tuft
up on their heads.
